Do you have a dispute resolution clause in your contracts?

I find this approach useful in many of my subcontractor agreements. Often times the fees for the services performed is under $10,000. In those cases, if there are not additional damages that could be included, I would recommend suit in small claims court. I would also recommend this approach in some situations in which you have agreed to limit damages--but that is an whole different issue.
